FISH AUCTION IN SÈTE
The fishing harbour of Sète is one of the most important around the Mediterranean Sea.
Every day at 3:00pm, fishing boats come back after a long day off shore. Once docked, fishermen unload from 30 to 50 trawlers, 35 to 60 tonnes of fish, crustaceans and shellfish sorted in containers. The containers are then sent to the auction by a conveyor where authorized purchasers (wholesalers, fish stores, restaurants and supermarkets) bid on lots. Almost three quarter of the catch is exported to Spain.
Sète is specializing in bluefin tuna which is fished in the region in strict compliance with international regulations. The Label “Thon Rouge de Ligne“ found today in stores and supermarket is the insurance of responsible and sustainable fishing practices.
At Mistral Experiences, we want to give you the opportunity to be part of this unique and authentic experience. Our “The Tastes of Languedoc” experience features an outing to Sète for the fish auction and we will make sure fresh Bluefin tuna is included in our dinner menu during the week.
